PLAINFIELD, NJ - A ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of a quarter-mile section of the Green Brook Multi-Use Trail, a seven-mile recreational trail running parallel to the Green Brook corridor from Jefferson Ave. in Plainfield at the Dunellen border to Terrill Rd. at the Scotch Plains border, took place on Thursday.
This first section of the trail was completed in April 2019 by Black Rock Enterprises, and was funded by a NJDOT Local Aid Bicycle Grant. The trail is envisioned as open space land, connecting the greater regional greenway and park system. It is also seen as “an alternative means of safe non-motorized transportation highlighting the downtown commercial area and other cultural and historic points of interest within the City of Plainfield and Borough of North Plainfield.”
Mayor Adrian O. Mapp said the project has been a long time in the making. “This dates back, I believe, to the former late mayor and friend Al McWilliams. And so it is very fitting that I see in the audience Darlene McWilliams and Annie McWilliams, as well as Maya, the next generation. So I want to welcome you, especially, given this was the brainchild of your dad and late husband.”
